To the heart of Nikon Z 5 is a CMOS image sensor in FX format (35,9x23,9 mm) from 24,3 real megapixels, equipped with phase detection AF pixels (273 AF points). CMOS leverages the optical performance of Nikkor Z lenses to achieve high quality and sharpness levels. In addition Nikon Z 5 achieves sensitivity values between 100 and 51,200 ISO in steps of 1\3 or 1\2 EV (the range is expandable to the ISO 50-102.400 equivalent) with an advanced processing of images performed by the processor Nikon EXPEED 6. The AF phase detection pixels on the focal plane are distributed in the entire CMOS sensor and ensure that the latter ensures careful focus on a large frame area. In photographic and video mode (Full HD), you can activate the only central part of the DX sensor (23,5x13,2 mm) to achieve more spindle focal equivalents.

Careful focus on a large frame area: 273 points hybrid AF system

To maximise sensor resolution and resolving power of Nikkor Z lenses, focus accuracy is essential. In Nikon Z 5 is implemented a wide coverage hybrid AF system, equal to about 90% of the horizontal and vertical frame, with 273 AF points. With the help of an algorithm optimized for the FX sensor, the system focuses on the subject using phase detection AF or contrast detection AF. Thanks to its extensive coverage, it manages the subjects that are located in the outskirts of the image area and ensures photographers the opportunity to express their creativity. The Nikkor Z lenses are designed to meet a stricter AF standard and therefore ensure high performance in terms of AF resolution and accuracy. The activation of the AF function allows to operate up to -3 EV.
